In the original, the Banks plan a camping trip, but it's cut short when Carlton and Will go to the ATM, a robber approaches them and fires a gun, and Will takes the bullet for Carlton. Carlton begins carrying a gun and Will has to convince him to give him the gun.

This storyline was compelling, and with the dynamics of the current characters, I can see that being executed exactly the same, with the same impact.
