All the while, she's directed episodes of TV too, including for Being Mary Jane, Scandal, This Is Us, and Insecure. In 2020, she made her feature directorial debut with One Night in Miami..., a fictionalized telling of the real-life time Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, Sam Cooke, and Malcolm X met in 1964. The film, which garnered three Oscar noms, was written by Kemp Powers and based on his play of the same name.
