The girl was the first of five to be punished, which includes her 13-year-old sister.
WASHINGTON — One of the five teen girls accused of beating Reggie Brown to death was sentenced to three years in secured detention in DC Superior Court on Thursday, WUSA9 has learned.
The 15-year-old was the first of five suspects, which includes her 13-year-old sister.
She pleaded guilty to a downgraded charge of second-degree murder to assault with a dangerous weapon for the deadly Oct. 17, 2023 attack.
Investigators say the 15-year-old kicked Reggie Brown once in the torso. She was the least aggressive in the horrific attack and according to investigators, the blows to Brown's head were ultimately the cause of death.
"The young lady today, she was remorseful. She showed empathy and she apologized to the families," said Malda Brown, Reggie's sister. "So therefore, we think that Judge Briggs made an excellent decision on the behalf of our family today."
