You'll never watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) the same way again.
Warning: major movie spoilers ahead!
1. "In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), Rick Dalton sings 'Green Door' on 'Hullaballo.' The song was referenced as a 'portal to hell' by late-'50s Charles Manson-like cult leader, David Berg. Rick Dalton also happens to have a green front door to his home."
2. "In Barbie (2023), while traveling back and forth between Barbie Land and the Real World, one of the traveling scenes includes riding a tandem bicycle through a field of flowers. This is just like in The Wizard of Oz when they journey through the field of poppies."
3. "In Scream VI (2023), a man in a Mojo Jojo costume from The Powerpuff Girls passes the main characters. The voice actor for Mojo Jojo (Roger L. Jackson) also does the iconic Ghostface phone-call voice."
4. "In Missing (2023), halfway through the movie, the main character gets a text from the film's producer Sev Ohanian — spoiling the end of the movie."
5. "In In the Heights (2021), Nina's father Kevin is on the phone with the Stanford financial office. The hold music is the melody from 'You'll Be Back,' which is written by Lin-Manuel Miranda for his musical Hamilton. Miranda also has a cameo in the beginning of the film."
6. "In Up (2009), during the balloon sequence, most people focused on the Toy Story 3 (2010) Lotso bear Easter egg. However, the drawing hanging on the young girl's bedroom wall foreshadows Kevin the bird and Dug the dog."
7. "In Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022), Miles Bron has a sculpture of a small figurine of a court jester (also known as a fool). This is a reference to a Beatles lyric from their song 'Glass Onion:' 'I told you about the fool on the hill/I tell you, man, he living there still.'"
8. "In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), Miles' roommate is playing the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game for Playstation 5."
9. "The characters from the '80s Dungeons & Dragons TV series can be seen in the 2023 movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves."
10. "In Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), one frame in the multiverse montage includes the visual effects crew editing the film on Zoom."
11. "In The Karate Kid (1984), Daniel tells Miyagi he'd only go to the Halloween dance if he were invisible. While saying this, the shower costume he eventually wears is hanging right behind him."
12. "In Air (2023), a Shelby Cobra model car is placed on Matt Damon's computer. This is a nod to his character in Ford v Ferrari (2019), whose name is Carroll Shelby."
13. "Michael Keaton played Agent Ray Nicolette in both Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown (1997) and Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight (1998)."
14. "In Spirited Away (2001), the elevator scene with the radish god is meant to parallel this moment from My Neighbor Totoro (1988)."
15. "In Barbie (2023), the older woman who Barbie says is beautiful is costume designer Ann Roth, who has been nominated for five Academy Awards for Best Costume Design. She's won two Oscars for her work on The English Patient (1996) and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)."
16. And: "In Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), when Mrs. Doubtfire is fishing her teeth out of the wine, she says: 'Carpe dentum. Seize the teeth.' This line was improvised by Robin Williams as a reference to his character in Dead Poets Society (1989), in which he says: 'Carpe Diem. Seize the day.'"
