"The whole film was a disappointment anyway, but the total waste of a really talented actor was the worst part for me."
We recently asked the BuzzFeed Community to share what TV and movie castings had them super hyped, but ultimately left them disappointed.
Here's what they had to say:
1. First, Oscar Isaac as En Sabah Nur in X-Men: Apocalypse
2. Tom Hanks as Tom Parker in Elvis
3. Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker in Dracula
4. Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana as Clare and Henry in The Time Traveler’s Wife
5. Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, and Vince Vaughn as Ani, Ray, and Frank in True Detective Season 2
6. Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams in Wednesday
Netflix / courtesy Everett Collection
"She looked great, but the performance felt really mediocre."
7. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
Warner Bros. / courtesy Everett Collection
"I thought he had the potential and possibly still has the potential to be a great Lex Luthor. But he has to lose that bizarre stuttering mumbling moaning hyper coked out Elon Musk-ish performance that he hit us over the head with in Dawn of Justice."
8. Ben Platt as Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen
Universal / courtesy Everett Collection
"He was INCREDIBLE playing the role on stage and SO deserving of his Tony, so when it was announced that he'd be playing Evan in the movie, I was really excited. I even held out hope through the initial online hate, but every trick they tried to 'age him down' actually just made him look older, and his performance just didn't translate to the screen."
9. Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks in Mary Poppins Returns
Disney / courtesy Everett Collection
"I was so excited, since he's my favorite actor and the original Mary Poppins was one of my favorite childhood films — only to watch it and realize that, not only was he barely in it, the whole movie was just disappointing and bad."
10. Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan in Twilight
Summit Entertainment / Via youtube.com
"I heard a rumor that she was cast in the role of Bella because she was so forgettable and bland in her acting that it made it easier for the viewer to imagine themselves in her place...ouch."
11. Steven Yeun as Ricky "Jupe" Park in Nope
Universal Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection
"From the trailers, it looked like he was going to be a major part of it. And to be fair, he was almost solely the catalyst to the plot. But once his character was killed by the alien, the rest of the movie, to me, was a HUGE disappointment. I guess I just wish he got more screen time and didn’t die in the first 35ish minutes."

12. Machine Gun Kelly as Cal in The Last Son
Redbox Entertainment / Courtesy Everett Collection
"God that movie was underwhelming lol. Still love him."
13. Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd
DreamWorks / courtesy Everett Collection
"I knew most of the cast couldn't sing but I thought he could. Turns out nah."
14. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine
20th Century Fox / courtesy Everett Collection
"The whole thing was a cringey disappointment, but Origins!Pool was The Worst. Thank goodness Ryan got his reboot/redemption."
15. Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant as Lucy and George in Two Weeks Notice
Warner Bros. / courtesy Everett Collection
"I was (and still am) a big fan of both of theirs so I was stoked for them to be in something together, but IMO, there was no real chemistry. The overall plot of the movie didn't really do anything for me either."
16. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jennifer Morrison as Mary/Snow White and Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time
ABC / courtesy Everett Collection
"I watched the first season, and while I didn’t hate it, I just could never get above ambivalence for it. And I love fairy tales! It should have been my favorite show, but I just didn’t care."
17. And finally, Christopher Eccleston as Malekith in Thor: The Dark World
Disney / courtesy Everett Collection
"I loved him so much in Doctor Who and was really excited to see him play a villain and get some wider recognition…and then they buried his face in makeup and prosthetics and gave him like four lines. The whole film was a disappointment anyway, but the total waste of a really talented actor was the worst part for me."
