WASHINGTON — Two people have been taken into custody and face charges in connection to a deadly shooting in Southeast, D.C. from last year.
An unidentified 18-year-old man and 19-year-old Eric Sheffield were charged Thursday with first-degree murder while armed in connection to the shooting last year that left 28-year-old Kenneth Barksdale Jr. dead.
On Dec. 16, 2023, just after 8 p.m., officers responded to a shooting on 44th Place in Southeast, D.C. Once there, officers found a man who had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. He was later identified as Barksdale Jr.
Over eight months later, on Thursday, officers located and arrested Sheffield of Northeast, D.C. in connection to the shooting. He was taken into custody and charged, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant.
The day before, on Wednesday, officers located and arrested an 18-year-old man in connection to the murder.
The investigation into the deadly shooting is active and ongoing.
