19 Movie Mistakes That Completely And Totally Ruined Otherwise Perfect Films

1 year ago 9

It's shocking that editors didn't catch these, really.

There's nothing quite like the disappointment that comes from noticing a mistake in an otherwise perfect movie.

You're engrossed, thinking only about the main character and their next steps, then suddenly, you're brought crashing back into the real world by a blunder you can't quite believe escaped a whole crew of movie professionals.

I recently asked the BuzzFeed Community which movie errors had done this for them, and now I have a good few new submissions to my "movies I can never watch in the same way again" list!

1. "The church/library scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where ‘X marks the spot.’ You see the giant X when he goes upstairs to spot it, but it disappears (or there’s just a shadow of it) when he starts to break the floor to get to the tomb."

"It always drove me crazy how they missed that because it’s such an important part of the scene."

2. "In Pretty Woman, during in the scene where Julia Roberts is eating breakfast. Every time the camera pans to her, she switches from eating a pancake to a croissant."

"Also, sometimes the food appears to be half eaten then shows one bite taken from it."

3. "In Bambi. I think in newer versions it has been corrected, but when I was little I noticed they forgot to keep drawing one of the animals and it disappeared from the scene."

"It happens when they’re all by the water, I think they had just escaped a forest fire or something like that. Been over 10 years since I watched it so I don’t exactly remember."

4. "When Bella’s in the hospital during Twilight. Every time the camera position changes so does her oxygen nozzle (sorry idk what it’s called)."

"I seriously can’t unsee it and as a slight perfectionist it totally bothers me lol."

5. "In the 1999 film Inspector Gadget when they gave a quarter-hearted attempt at hiding Claw's face in the back seat of the car in one scene."

"It's low lighting at best and you can still make out his face."

6. "In Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, the scene where our trio finishes talking to Hagrid and either Ron or Harry ask “Who’s Nicolas Flamel?” Neither one of them seems to move their mouths."

7. "In Titanic, when Jack and Rose are standing on the front of the ship. When it pans to Rose, the backdrop is clearly fake and doesn’t look anything like it should."

"To my knowledge nobody talks about this. It looks clearly fake and it’s what I focus on in the scene every single time."

8. "I always have a hard time watching things (mostly TV episodes) set in Montana (born and raised). We do NOT have thick Southern accents, we are NOT all cowboys living in the middle of nowhere, and Great Falls and Billings are big ass cities (by MT standards) not small towns in the middle of nowhere."

PBS / Via giphy.com

"I almost refuse to watch these single episodes of shows that are taking place in MT, I usually see it once then never again."

9. "In Return to Halloweentown when the mom swipes her debit card the strip is facing up yet she puts in her pin and completes the purchase 😆."

10. "When the science teacher in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You said, 'What makes the octopus’s pulmonary system unique is that it has not one but three hearts.' The heart is part of the cardiovascular/circulatory system, not the pulmonary system."

NBC / Via giphy.com

"The focus of the scene was not at all on the science teacher, but I still had to pause and rewind to make sure I heard it correctly."

11. "Both of these happen in Moonstruck and involve women's hair. First, it is shown that Cher's character Loretta has gray hair, which eventually gets dyed black. Yet the gray comes and goes a few times before she goes to the beauty salon."

"Similarly, there's a scene later in the movie where Olympia Dukakis' Rose goes to answer the door with one hairstyle, then returns to the kitchen with it being completely different. A bonus one? The grandfather character who has many dogs to walk has the number of animals change from scene to scene!"

13. "In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets during the duel between Harry and Draco. After Draco is thrown backward, Snape helps him back up and we get a shot from behind of him pulling Draco onto his feet with students surrounding them. In between the students, you can see a crew member with a camera filming the scene from a different angle."

"He's completely dressed in black and can be hard to spot, but once you see him, you can never unsee him! It didn't ruin the movie for me per se, but it's a hilarious moment that I'm surprised just slipped past the editors."

14. "In Ocean's 11 (The George Clooney version), how did they get all the stripper flyers into the vault in order to fill six large bags to put in the van?"

"Where did they come from? That was a lot of flyers! Danny and Linus didn't bring them in with them, Chen didn't bring them!! Where?! I'm so confused."

15. "Someone smoking a cigarette in a battle scene in Excalibur."

16. "In Total Recall, the base on Mars was so poorly constructed that a single bullet could pass through it and cause a complete loss of atmosphere. So despite the fact that there was an ongoing civil war with frequent terrorist attacks, no one thought that maybe the walls should be reinforced."

17. "I come from a firearms family, my parents are trap and skeet instructors. But damn near every movie from the 1980s got ammo capacity for guns wrong. Shooting 8 bullets from a 6 round revolver, ammo belts that apparently never ended, etc. The movie that sticks out in my head was Commando. That Valmet M78 (long-barreled AK-47) never runs dry."

"In a real weapon, it takes less than three seconds to empty 30 rounds at full auto but not for Arnie. And he never aims, he just points it like you would a water hose washing your car. Drove me nuts and I was a seven-year-old kid watching at the time."

18. "The whole movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. But the part that sticks out was where they exit the hangar at the Smithsonian and have suddenly travelled all the way to the Tucson, Arizona, Air Force Boneyard. There's no desert in Washington D.C."

19. "In The Fast and The Furious, when Tran's shirt suddenly changes from a black long-sleeved shirt to a black vest top for no apparent reason when he's about to race Jesse."
