Over the course of TV history, there have been some monumental TV shows that have focused on LGBTQ+ stories. And while they have all been incredible to watch, sadly, there is still a trend where queer characters are killed off for shock value, sometimes even in a series finale.
Named the "Bury Your Gays" TV trope, it usually shows a beloved LGBTQ+ character getting killed off for simply shock value and/or for furthering the story of a straight character. And, a lot of times, the LGBTQ+ character's death comes after a moment of happiness.
Despite years of shows being called out for using this trope, many still consistently do it, with notable recent examples including The 100, Killing Eve, and more.
Let's chat about all things Pride
However, alongside the shows that have missed the mark, there are also countless incredible LGBTQ+–centered shows that give queer characters the happy endings they deserve.
So, here are 21 of my favorites that I recommend all the time:
6. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
18. Teenage Bounty Hunters
20. The Haunting of Hill House
21. And finally, Schitt's Creek
Again, these are just a few of my favorites, but I want to hear yours. So, in the comments, tell me which other TV shows that include happy endings for LGBTQ+ characters that you love and why.
Like, should I FINALLY watch Sense8 or Young Royals?!
