Free burgers will be available for all spectators immediately following the contest.
WASHINGTON — At Z-Burger, the stakes are as high as the stacks of juicy patties, as competitive eaters gather for a feast that promises not just flavor, but glory.
The 15th Annual Independence Day Burger Eating Championship at the restaurant's Tenleytown location will get underway at noon on July 3.
Twelve contestants from around the U.S. and Canada are set to compete to see who can eat the most burgers in 10 minutes in order to take home the title.
Last year's winner Molly Schuyler, the World's #1 Independent Eater, downed 37 burgers in the time allotted. She will be back to try for her 10th straight title win.
There will be $6,000 in cash prizes up for grabs including;
- 1st: $2,000
- 2nd: $1,250
- 3rd: $1,000
- 4th: $750
- 5th: $500
- 6th:$400
- 7th:$100
Following the contest, all spectators will be treated to a free burger until 2 p.m.
Z-Burger is described as a fast-casual restaurant known for its burgers, fries, onion rings, and 75 milkshake flavors. Z-Burger operates 16 locations in the DMV.
