GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Police are investigating after accused shoplifters allegedly drove over an officer's leg while fleeing a store in Gaithersburg Monday afternoon.

According to Gaithersburg Police, officers were called to Dick's Sporting Goods on Grand Corner Avenue for a report of felony shoplifting shortly before 5 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned the suspects were two women who left the store in a silver sedan driven by a man.

A short time later, investigators received another report of shoplifting with two women suspects and a man driving a silver sedan, this time at a Lululemon on Crown Park Avenue less than half a mile away from the Dick's Sporting Goods.

Officers went to investigate the second theft and tried to stop a silver sedan. While doing so, police say the driver fled, hitting the officer and driving over their leg before getting away.
