Many hesitate to adopt a senior pet, but here's why it may be a better fit for your family.
FAIRFAX, Va. — Come and discover your new best friend this weekend at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter! In an effort to help these pets find their forever homes, the shelter is waiving adoption fees on select animals.
WHAT:
Join the Fairfax County Animal Shelter for "Vintage Tails," a special adoption event dedicated to finding loving homes for senior pets. Adoption fees will be waived for all dogs and cats 6 years and older.
WHEN:
- Friday, July 26, from noon to 7 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE:
- Michael R. Frey Campus: 4500 West Ox Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030
- Lorton Campus: 8875 Lorton Rd., Lorton, VA 22079
WHY:
Adopting senior pets can be an incredibly rewarding experience, yet many people hesitate due to concerns about potential health issues, shorter time together, and different care needs compared to younger animals. Some may also have misconceptions about older pets being less adaptable or having more behavioral problems. However, senior pets often show immense gratitude and affection, require less energy, and come with established personalities, making them easier to match with the right home.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
- Adoption fees waived for senior pets.
- Families who adopt a senior pet during the event will receive a $500 credit to use at Pender Veterinary Centre for bloodwork or other veterinary services, courtesy of the Friends of Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
- An opportunity to meet and adopt amazing senior dogs and cats.
