"I'm so happy we could share this season together! And thank you for celebrating me!"
Earlier this week, Alex Newell made Tony Award history by being the first non-binary person to win an award for their performance in Shucked on Broadway.
Alex first rose to prominence back in 2011 after appearing on the reality competition series The Glee Project. After coming in second place on the series, they were awarded a role on Glee as Wade "Unique" Adams, a trans teen who was assigned male at birth.
Lea Michele, who notably starred on Glee alongside Alex, currently plays the Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl, and even performed at "Don't Rain On My Parade" at this year's Tony Awards.
After the show, Lea posted a selfie of her with Alex and she congratulated them on their historic win, and the two seemingly reunited for the first time since the the series ended back in 2015.
Alex later shared the photo to their own story, saying "This was a moment for me! I'm so happy we could share this season together! And thank you for celebrating me! @leamichele look how far we've come!❤️"
This reunion comes three years after Glee co-star Samantha Ware called out Lea for "traumatic microaggressions" while filming Season 6 of the Fox series.
At the time, several other of Lea's cast members commented on the accusations, including Alex, who showed their support with a reaction gif saying "Get her, Jade!"
They also took to Twitter to explain that "when [their] friends goes through something traumatic [they] also go through it."
I’m gonna say this one time... when my friends goes through something traumatic I also go through it... that’s what friendship is... and if you can’t understand that then you’re part of the problem... and that’s on PERIODT! And I mean that for both sides of this coin!
