As storming from Helene impacts parts of Southwestern Virginia, crews from Northern Virginia have remained on alert to aid in rescues where needed.
DAMASCUS, Va. — The Arlington County Water Rescue team reportedly performed a dramatic boat rescue to save the life of a person trapped inside their home by floodwaters.
As storming from Helene impacts parts of Southwestern Virginia, crews from Northern Virginia have remained on alert to aid in rescues where needed. On Friday morning, Arlington County Fire Department's (AFCD) rescue team says crews were called to Mountain City Road in the town of Damascus, where multiple people faced dangers of from flooding and the risk of homes being swept away.
At around 10 a.m., ACFD's Type 3 Water Rescue Team sent a swift water boat into moving water and breached a window of the house where an occupant was trapped. They were able to get a life vest on the occupant, whose identity or gender has not been shared, and assisted them out of the window and into the boat.
The occupant was ferried back to a safe location, ACFD says.
