"I am truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent."

Sure, some folks have complained that the continuous live-action movies are getting tired, but I'm still hopeful about this one. Moana is my absolute favorite Disney princess! And as a Samoan woman, it would mean SO much to see a huge movie with an all-Pacific Islander cast.

Last month, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that he'd be returning as Maui, but we didn't hear if any other actors in the original would be back.

Well, we just got some big news! Auli'i Cravalho – who voiced Moana in the animated film – just posted an Instagram video announcing that she won't be playing the character again.

"When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career," she said. "In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role. I believe it is absolutely vital that casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell."

Though the 22-year-old won't be playing Moana, she shared that she'll still be part of the project.

"As an executive producer on the film, I cannot wait to help find the next actress to portray Moana's courageous spirit, undeniable wit, and emotional strength."

"I am truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific peoples, cultures, and communities that helped inspired her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representation to come. Mahalo," she concluded.

I can't wait to see who they pick as the new Moana! We'll be sure to let you know if there are any casting updates.
