The 4-month-old girl’s mother said her husband went to the bank when someone slipped in the car and drove away.
HYBLA VALLEY, Va. — Police in Fairfax County are searching for the person who stole a car with a baby girl still in the back seat.
The incident happened in a shopping center before 2 p.m. near Richmond Highway and Fordson Road in Hybla Valley.
The car was ditched outside the nearby Ross in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway near Belford Drive. The girl, 4-month-old Naraysa Fahie, was returned safely to her mother who took off work.
Tedisha Fahie said her husband left their red Toyota sedan running while he walked to the bank.
“He was in the bank by the ATM and in that process, she was in the car still and somebody went with the car,” Tedisha Fahie told WUSA9. “He ran after the car. He ran.”
Police haven’t released the description of the driver. Meanwhile, investigators are working to obtain surveillance videos from nearby businesses.
“I’m just glad it wasn’t worse than what it was,” Tedisha Fahie added. “I left work. I cried because it took so long to get her. We’ve been married for 10 years, and we finally got our baby, and this happens. It’s hard.”
“Why take something that’s not yours?” she questioned.
The car remained on scene for several hours as police continued to collect evidence and question the husband.
Tedisha Fahie said while she’s upset with the culprit, she’s also her husband.
"We're going to have a good conversation," Tedisha Fahie said.
