Tykel Wilson will serve seven years in prison followed by five years of probation.

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man has been sentenced to seven years for carjacking a rideshare driver while armed.

Tykel Wilson, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence in June, and on Sept. 27, he was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by five years of probation.

At approximately 1:43 p.m. on April 29, 3023, Wilson, armed with a silver gun, approached a rideshare car that had just dropped off a passenger, according to both government evidence and Wilson. He demanded the driver exit the car, and then Wilson got in and drove away.

This isn’t Wilson’s first offense. He was on probation in 2023 when he committed the armed carjacking, court records show.

In 2021, when he was 19, WUSA9 reported that when he got a flat tire on a stolen car, he stole the car of people who pulled over to help him in Montgomery County.
