The District has activated its Hot Weather Emergency plan.
WASHINGTON — It's another scorcher in the nation's capital.
Temperatures are forecasted to reach the mid 90s but with the humidity, the heat index will make it feel like it's between 100 and 109 degrees.
Therefore, D.C. has been placed under a Heat Advisory, activating the Hot Weather Emergency plan through 10 p.m.
The plan kicks in when temperatures or the heat index in D.C. are forecasted to be 95 degrees or higher for four consecutive days.
Officials recommend the following;
- Taking breaks in the shade or air conditioning
- Drinking plenty of water.
- Checking on seniors and other vulnerable neighbors.
- Keeping pets indoors, walking them early.
- Wearing appropriate clothing and sunscreen; SPF 15 or higher.
- Remembering alcohol and caffeinated drinks dehydrate you.
Cooling centers are also open all across D.C. If you or someone you know needs transportation to a cooling center, please call the shelter hotline at (202) 399-7093.
A Heat Emergency will be activated tomorrow, July 4 at 10AM through Friday, July 5 at 10PM🚨
