Football fans could pack the District in 2027.

WASHINGTON — Football fans take note. The District of Columbia has officially put in a bid to host the 2027 NFL Draft. The huge event could potentially bring close to a million people to the District.

According to planning documents obtained by the Washington Post, the Draft could take place on the National Mall. Representatives from Events DC and the National Park Service have been working with the NFL for months to try to bring the massive event to the nation's capital.

According to emails, the main stage for the Draft would be on 4th Street, near the National Galley of Art and the National Air and Space Museum. A portion could also be held on Pennsylvania Avenue, where attendees could flow to the Mall.

District leaders had previously explored trying to host the 2024 Draft, which ultimately was awarded to Detroit. That event brought a record crowd of 775,000 people to the Motor City over three days.

D.C. is hoping for similar numbers if this bid is approved.
