FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — It’s a joyous occasion for the team over at Bagel Joy. The bakery will officially open its doors to its brick and mortar location on Friday, July 1 at 6 a.m.
The shop was originally supposed to open Monday, May 13. Unfortunately, an elderly man postponed the grand opening after he accidentally drove his car through the shop on May 7.
Fortunately, no one was in the shop during the time of the crash. The driver was evaluated at the scene and cleared soon after. Fairfax County Police say an older man was trying to park his car in the shopping center when he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes and went flying into the store.
Bagel Joy is a father-son owned and operated business that began during the pandemic. David and Caleb Picard began experimenting with recipes for authentic bagels.
"I was craving a good bagel during the pandemic and I couldn't find one and I started making them," said Picard.
In 2021 the pair began selling their bagels at the One Loudoun Farmers’ Market. Three years later, the Picards began renovating the former Bagel Buddies location in the Fair Lakes Shopping Center.
After delaying the grand opening for over a month, Bagel Joy is up and running and ready to receive customers from the community they’ve built over the last four years.
Picard told WUSA9 that Bagel Joy got its name because they care about two things. Bagels and bringing joy to their community. They hope to bring both of these things to Fairfax County as soon as possible.
