A debate over golf broke out between Donald Trump and Joe Biden on Thursday night.

ATLANTA — Out of all the discussions on Thursday night between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump over policy, the economy and more -- a debate over each candidate's golf game was not to be expected.

But that's just what happened on debate night -- when the candidates were asked about the public's concern of their rising ages.

What Trump said about his golf game

Trump talked about how he recently took cognitive tests and takes physical exams every year, to which he parlayed his health into talking about how he recently won two club golf championships, that he touted were not senior tournaments either.

"I just won two club championships, not even senior," Trump said. "Two regular club championships. To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way. And I do it. He couldn't do it, he can't even hit a ball 50 yards," Trump went on about Biden.

What Biden said about his golf game

Biden got the microphone and clapped back at Trump, saying he would be "happy to have a driving contest with him."

The president said he recently got his handicap down to a six, for which Trump laughed at Biden's claim.

"By the way, I told you before I'm happy to play golf with you if you carry your own bag," Biden said.

Trump responded by saying "the biggest lie" was Biden saying he was a 6-handicap.

"I've seen your swing. I know your swing," Trump said.

Trump said Biden challenged him to a golf match.

What is a 6-handicap?

A golf handicap is a number that represents a golfer's score based on previous rounds and a compilation of scores from numerous rounds.

The lower your handicap is to zero, the better golfer you are. If you're handicap is a zero, that means you are a scratch golfer, which means you roughly shoot around par (72) every time.

Biden claiming he was recently a 6-handicap as a vice president means he would be better than most amateur golfers on the course. It is the number of strokes a player is expected to score above par, meaning Biden regularly shot in the high 70s or low 80s.
