Investigators said the driver of the van was distracted when he hit and killed Gary Paul Wilson.
MANASSAS, Va. — A Manassas man has been charged in connection to a deadly pedestrian crash on Monday. The crash left a 90-year-old man dead.
Russell Anthony Carolla, 68, was charged with careless driving on Tuesday, following an investigation by police. Police say he was distracted, and that contributed to the collision. He was released, and expected to be back in court on Nov. 21.
On Monday afternoon, officers were called to the 10100 block of Lake Jackson Drive in Manassas to investigate the crash. Carolla was behind the wheel of a 2021 Mercedes Benz Sprinter van heading eastbound on Lake Jackson Drive when the van struck Gary Paul Wilson, who was walking on the shoulder portion of the road. Where the crash happened, there was no sidewalk.
Wilson was taken to the hospital, but died a few hours later from his injuries.
