It'll be the movie of the summer! And it's only two years away? That's way sooner than I expected!

Dwayne previously shared that he'd be reprising the role of Maui and serving as an executive producer. He said the character meant a lot to him as Maui was partially inspired by his late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia. "How deep this story is for me, because in a way, when I bring Maui to life, I'm doing it in the spirit of my grandfather."

Auli'i Cravalho – who voiced Moana in the original – recently announced she will not be playing the character again, but she is an executive producer. "I am truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific peoples, cultures, and communities that helped inspire her story."
