As you may know, last week, members of the Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists joined the Writers Guild of America in a strike regarding labor disputes with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Although there are many reasons for the strike, one of the biggest issues is how these creatives are compensated by streaming platforms.
So when Netflix used Ellen's Grey's Anatomy character Meredith in a TikTok meme earlier this week, she knew she had to say something.
The original post featured a photo of Meredith looking slightly annoyed with the caption, "Me when there’s a [bomb] in the chest cavity" — referencing an episode from season 2.
Ellen decided to flip the script on the meme, posting the same image on her Instagram story adding the caption, "Also me when Netflix doesn’t pay actors residuals."
Ellen added, "holla let's talk" to the end of her message — seemingly to encourage the continued negotiations.
She also left her response as a comment on the original video, which now has over 4000 likes — and encouraged numerous other comments in support of the strike.
Netflix has not yet responded to Ellen's comments — and as of now, the TikTok is still live on their account.
