Eugene And Dan Levy Are Officially Hosting The Emmys This Year, And It's Literally The *Perfect* Choice

1 month ago 7

This is about to be the greatest year for the Emmys in a LOOOOONG time.

So big news in the TV world! ABC has officially chosen the hosts for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards on September 15th...

...and the choice is brilliant. Amazing. Incredible. Showstopping. Perfect. Completely not ever been done before. All the things.

I know you know already, so let me just say it. ABC has chosen a unique set of hosts to trump them all: Eugene and Dan Levy.

This is a huge choice for many reasons, which we'll go through, but let me start by explaining that normally, the Emmys aren't hosted by these kinds of fan-fave surprise guests. So it's awesome they're switching it up this year.

Most past hosts are who you'd expect: Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel, you get the deal.

Now, back to the Levys. If you're living under a rock and don't remember who these two icons are, let me remind you. Most recently, they're the stars of Schitt's Creek, which ran from 2015 to 2020. Oh, and they're also father and son.

Which is sort of obvious, because they look the same. It's so adorable.

In addition to acting, Eugene and Dan were executive producers, directors, and writers on Schitt's Creek. They can do it all. Quadruple threats.

You might also know Eugene Levy from American Pie and SCTV — and he also won two Emmys for the latter in 1982-1983.

If it isn't cute enough already that they were on Schitt's Creek together, here's another reason why this is such wonderful news: they're making history as the first-ever father-son duo to host the Emmys!

I mean, come ON! How perfect is that?

The two of them are honestly Emmys legends at this point. Collectively, they've won 7 Emmys — and even set a record in 2020 for the most wins for a single season of a comedy series.

This was the year Schitt's Creek swept the Emmys with a whopping NINE wins. DESERVEDLY SO.

Specifically, that year, Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series went to Eugene, and Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series went to Dan. This means they made history AGAIN as the first father-son duo to win Emmys in the same year. Double whammy!

They won Outstanding Comedy Series in 2020 for Schitt's Creek, and Dan won two additional Emmys that year — one for writing, and one for directing episodes of the show.

And in case you're wondering if they have hosting experience, yes, THEY DO INDEED. For one, Dan Levy hosted The Hills Aftershow on MTV with Jessi Cruickshank in the 2000s. So there.

The show is exactly what it sounds like: Dan and Jessi would go over what happened in an episode of The Hills right after it aired, in front of a live studio audience.

As for Eugene, he actually hosted the first-ever Gemini Awards, which was a Canadian TV awards show that ran from 1986 to 2011.

Although I oddly had to do a LOT of digging to learn this.

Besides, honestly? It's evident these two will absolutely kill it, regardless of their past hosting credits. Because if you've ever watched them on TV or in interviews, you know they're hilarious, and genuinely just a delight to watch.

"For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough," they said in a press release on Friday.

ICYMI, the 2020 Emmys were *not normal* because of the pandemic.

"We're thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can't wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15," they continued.

So wholesome! So exciting! And I can't believe it's taken me this long to say this, but so Canadian! Seriously, I'm positive literally every Canadian is jumping for joy right now, because we're all just so happy for them. I'll be watching like a proud mom as they take the stage.

But until they do, hey, please let us know how you think they'll do as hosts in the comments below! Or if there are any other duos you'd love to see host the Emmys one day, tell us.
