Former White House staffer and Donald Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin confirmed during “The View‘s” Election Day episode that she voted for Kamala Harris, marking the first time in her life that she’s backed a Democratic nominee for president of the United States. Griffin has been widely outspoken against Trump during election season and previously called him “the most dangerous man to have ever sat in the American presidency.”

“Four years ago today, I was in the White House with Donald Trump on election night,” Griffin said. “I believed he deserved to lose that night, at that point. I thought he hadn’t fought to win the election, but I thought the next four years would be the Republican party rebuilding and becoming something I could believe in and turning the page on Donald Trump, and it didn’t do that. So, this weekend, on Saturday, for the first time in my life, I voted for a Democrat.”

As Griffin’s co-hosts and “The View” studio audience roared in applause, Griffin clarified that she is still a Republican at heart and that she considered her vote “a loan to [Kamala].”

“I worry the direction that Donald Trump will take this country, and I take my own warning seriously,” Griffin explained about why she finally backed a Democrat. “I need someone who is a kind and decent person who will bring this country together. I don’t agree with a lot of her policies and we can criticize that down the road, but today is about the best thing for the future and the future of the country is that Donald Trump will lose and Kamala Harris is elected.”

Sarah Haines applauded Griffin for being honest about her decision to switch teams and vote for Kamala, saying: “I think that is a big move for you as a Republican for your whole life. I see it less as voting for a Democrat and more for voting for a democracy and constitution, so I commend you for that…[You] will get torn apart but you did the right thing, and I commend you for that.”

Griffin served as an associate of Trump’s communications team at the White House and resigned from the position in 2020. She spoke out against Trump’s re-election during the Nov. 4 episode of “The View.”

“I’m speaking as a former senior aide to Donald Trump who knows him very well,” Griffin said. “This is the most important election of our lifetimes because he is the most dangerous man to have ever sat in the American presidency. He cannot go back.”

Griffin’s vote for Harris means that all five “The View” hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar and Griffin — voted for Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
