Anyone interested should apply by Oct. 18.

FAIRFAX, Va. — Do you want a say in how school boundaries will be redrawn in Fairfax County? Well, here's your chance.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is looking for community members to join the new Boundary Review Advisory Committee. This effort follows a recent vote by the FCPS School Board to update Policy 8130, which governs school boundaries for the first time in nearly 40 years.

In an email sent to families on Tuesday, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid highlighted the importance of community involvement in the boundary review process. She stated, “Your unique perspectives and insights will be invaluable as we work together to ensure this process is transparent and includes significant community participation.”

What the boundary review means

The updated boundary policy, approved on July 18, does not propose specific changes to school boundaries right now. Instead, it creates a framework to guide any future adjustments. The goal is to improve student achievement, optimize budgets, and support student well-being.

Join the advisory committee

The Boundary Review Advisory Committee will include parents, community members, and FCPS employees from different regions. Members will attend regular meetings, review materials, and contribute to discussions about school boundaries.

Interested individuals should apply by Friday, October 18. While all applications are welcomed, the committee will aim to ensure diverse representation from across the community.

How you can get involved

This is a chance for Fairfax County families to have a say in decisions that affect their children’s education. Dr. Reid encourages everyone to participate and share their thoughts throughout this process.
