FilmSharks Boards Sandra Gugliotta’s ‘Irremediable’ from Magma Cine (EXCLUSIVE)

Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has snagged world sales rights to Sandra Gugliotta’s upcoming “Irremediable,” a dramatic thriller lead produced by Argentina’s Magma Cine.

“We are delighted to partner once again as a key sales and financing partner with one of Latin America’s most dynamic production companies, showcasing a distinctive director and an intriguing storyline,” said FilmSharks CEO-Founder Guido Rud.

Inspired by real events, the drama sheds light on the shadowy world of illegal adoption, delving into the secrecy and corruption as it follows a desperate woman who will do whatever it takes to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother.

Starring Maricel Alvarez and Alberto Ammann, it centers on Carla (Alvarez) who’s eager to start a family. She meets Amanda, a pregnant young woman who wants to give up her baby. As they get caught up in the murky adoption process, Carla and her husband, Pablo (Ammann), become trapped in a whirlwind of moral dilemmas and unexpected situations that challenge their deepest beliefs. Amanda’s true identity will further shake their convictions.

Drama is produced by Nathalia Videla Peña and Juan Pablo Gugliotta of Magma Cine and Carles Torras of Zabriskie, Catalonia, Spain. Antonio Pita of Prisma Cine, Argentina has boarded as a co-producer.

“Sandra Gugliotta’s direction will infuse the project with a distinct sensitivity. Her skill in working with actors, her artistic vision and deep perspective will greatly enhance the film’s atmosphere and emotional resonance,” she added.

“I hope that from Catalonia and Spain, we continue to collaborate with and support Argentine cinema, which is being threatened by Milei’s psychopathic government,” said Torras, alluding to the Argentine film industry’s precarious situation.

The right-wing government of President Javier Milei has decimated cultural, educational, health and other institutions in its effort to rein in the country’s hyper-inflation. The San Sebastian Festival and other major festivals since the Berlinale have hosted protest events in solidarity with Argentina.

Gugliotta, considered part of the wave of the New Argentine Cinema, has directed, written and produced a range of films, from her 2002 drama “A Lucky Day” to thriller “The Pursuer” and documentary “Retiros (in)voluntarios.”

Magma Cine’s notable credits include “Ardor” “La Sangre Brota” and “El Asaltante” by Pablo Fendrik and “Chile ‘76” by Manuela Martelli, which played at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight and won a Platino Award for best debut film.
