Dobbs had been one of Trump's strongest supporters and repeated the former president's unproven claims of voter fraud.
WASHINGTON — Conservative pundit and former Fox News personality Lou Dobbs has died. He was 78.
Former President Donald Trump shared the news of Dobbs' death on his social media platform TruthSocial on Thursday. Dobb's official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, confirmed his death shortly after.
"It's with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of 'The Great Lou Dobbs,'" a statement from Dobb's account read. "Lou was a fighter till the very end -- fighting for what mattered to him the most, God, his family and the country."
"Lou's legacy will forever live on as a patriot and a great American," the statement continued. "We ask for you prayers for Lou's wonderful wife Debi, children and grandchildren.
In 2021, Fox Business Network canceled the top-rated “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” after Dobbs repeatedly trumpeted unfounded assertions of voter fraud in the 2020 election. The move came one day after voting systems company Smartmatic filed a $2.7 billion lawsuit that named three Fox hosts, including Dobbs.
The former CNN host started his show at Fox in March 2011.
