From "High School Musical" To "The Lizzie McGuire Movie", Here Are 15 In-Universe Songs From Iconic '00s Movies, Ranked

Somebody get Sharpay Evans a record deal.

If, like me, you've sat through a movie and realised that some of the songs are chart-worthy, then you've come to the right place.

I've rounded up some of my favourite not-actual-songs-songs from movies I loved growing up (we're talking 2003-2011), and ranked them according to brilliance. Starting with...

15. Rags – "Someday"

Although this song never made its way onto my playlist, it still hits me with nostalgia! It's definitely not as catchy as the other songs in the list, and I did kinda forget about it until now  – oops. It worked brilliantly with the premise of Rags, and for a Nickelodeon film, it felt quite mature somehow.

14. Radio Rebel – "We So Fly"

If you weren't already in love with The Gs in Radio Rebel, then surely this song changed your mind?! It's extremely catchy, and if you haven't listened to it yet, be warned that it will get stuck in your head. I would describe this song as marmite – you either love it or hate it.

13. Bratz – "Bratitude"

This whole film is filled with bops – I'm a huge fan of "Heartburn" – but, of course, this is the song we waited the whole movie for... The Bratz' talent show performance. Was this a hit? Absolutely. I do think I was expecting *more* from the girls, it didn't feel as iconic as it should have been. Did it get outshined by another song in the movie?... More on that later.

12. Another Cinderella Story – "New Classic"

This song had me all up in my feels!! Not only is it super catchy, but it perfectly embodies early 2000s music, and I LOVE it. My only judgement is that it's not very memorable if I was to compare it to some of my higher-rated songs on this list. I will say, I did attempt to recreate some of the dance moves, but I'm certainly no Selena Gomez.

11. Starstruck – "Hero"

This song is criminally underrated, as is the movie, TBH. Sterling Knight is one of Disney's OG heartthrobs, and 13 years on, I still put this song on repeat A LOT. However, it's not something I would go out of my way to listen to and put on a throwback playlist (sorry!).

10. The Lizzie McGuire Movie – "What Dreams Are Made Of"

I'm sorry if this placement has offended you. I'll admit, it does hurt me to put this song so low down, but I'm sure you'll understand. This whole movie, and song, is a vibe, and it's definitely staying on my playlist. I love Lizzie, but she has some fierce competition.

9. Camp Rock – "Hasta La Vista"

I know we were all supposed to support Demi Lovato's character, but this song was the best in my humble opinion. The energy from Jordan Francis and Roshon Fegan was immaculate – how can you not enjoy this one?

8. Cheetah Girls – "Cinderella"

I love The Cheetah Girls, and this song was one of their finest. It's incredibly empowering, and it's actually criminal that this isn't a number one single.

7. Hannah Montana: The Movie – "Hoedown Throwdown"

I'm pretty sure almost everybody taught themselves how to "pop it, lock it, polka dot it" when this song first came out. It's Disney-fied country music, but in the best way possible.

6. Freaky Friday – "Take Me Away"

Who wasn't obsessed with this song? Lindsay Lohan's character made me believe that I could also look as cool with a guitar. This song belongs on everyone's playlist, and if it was up to me, it would be. Watch me do an Apple Music and add it to everyone's accounts unasked. You're welcome.

5. High School Musical 2 – "Fabulous"

I am a Sharpay apologist – she can do no wrong in my eyes, and this song is proof. The wordplay, the visuals? Stop. No, don't stop the music, it's too good.

4. Bratz – "It's All About Me"

Younger me was conflicted. I knew I had to stay loyal to The Bratz, but Meredith's song in the talent show really tested that loyalty. It's okay, if you also preferred this one, your secret is safe with me.

3. High School Musical 2 – "Bet On It"

Ahhh yes, Troy Bolton, our favourite basketball player/musical theatre star. Although Troy has some pretty good songs, nothing can beat this solo. The drama, the execution – everything is there for this to be a top hit.

2. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging – "Ultraviolet"

If Robbie wasn't your first proper crush, then who was? "Ultraviolet" was the moment everyone fell in love with The Stiff Dylans, and honestly, this film wouldn't have been as iconic without it.

1. Lemonade Mouth – "Determinate"

You know this is the *only* song that belongs at number one, it just makes sense. This song truly shaped my formative teen years, and really made me believe I could also create a band in the middle of detention. Also, who else knew Wen's rap off by heart?

Rating: 10/10 🎶

I'd love to know what other songs you think should've made it onto this list. Let me know in the comments!
