WASHINGTON — Several roads will be closed Thursday in parts of the District and Maryland for the funeral services of fallen D.C. Police Officer Wayne David.
David, a veteran officer with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), died in the line of duty on Aug. 28 after an accidental shooting while trying to retrieve a discarded gun from a storm drain along I-295.
MPD says funeral services will take place in Prince George’s County and a procession will travel through a portion of Northeast D.C. as well. The funeral is expected to take place between the hours of 1 -3 p.m., with the following roadways implementing a rolling closure in conjunction with the procession:
- Allentown Road from Lumar Drive to the on-ramp to the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway at Forestville Road
- The Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway/NB I-95/I-495 from Allentown Road to US-50
- WB US-50 from the Capital Beltway to the DC line
- Both directions of New York Avenue Northeast from Bladensburg Road Northeast to the Maryland line
- Bladensburg Road Northeast from New York Avenue Northeast to 38th Avenue in Colmar Manor, MD
Motorists could face traffic delays while driving around the vicinity of the funeral and MPD suggests they may want to consider alternative routes. The closures and listed times are subject to change, but MPD says it will provide timely traffic updates on it's X account here.
