MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A fundraiser to help the family of a man electrocuted at a Montgomery County worksite has raised almost $70,000 in two days.

Osmar Daniel Chavarria, 39, was a Verizon utility worker found dead in a bucket lift truck in the 200 block of Ashton Road Tuesday. When rescue workers arrived, they saw the bucket was making contact with power lines. Crews were called to deenergize the power lines so that rescuers could try to help Chavarria. However, the fire department pronounced him dead at the scene.

"To know Osmar was to love him," wrote Vanessa Monterrosa, the organizer of the GoFundMe. "His infectious smile could brighten any room, and he brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He cherished moments spent with loved ones and was always ready to create lasting memories."

The GoFundMe has a goal of $75,000 to help the family with the unexpected costs. As of Friday morning, a little over $67k had been raised through more than 800 donations.

Montgomery County Police are investigating Chavarria's death, but at this time, they have said they do not suspect any foul play. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will conduct an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death.
