The project plans to upgrade and maintain the existing bridge over Four Mile Run, as well as add a pedestrian and bicycle bridge.

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Shirlington Road Pedestrian Bridge in Arlington County will see several lane closures next week due to utility work.

Shirlington Road's right southbound lane will close between South Four Mile Run Drive and South Arlington Mill Drive. The midblock crosswalk will close at 27th Street South and detour to the South Four Mile Run crossing during the lane closures, taking place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The sidewalk on South Arlington Mill Drive nearest to the bridge will be fully closed. Residents are advised to use the crosswalk to detour on South Nelson Street.

The project plans to upgrade and maintain the existing bridge over the Four Mile Run and add a pedestrian and bicycle bridge west of the existing bridge. It will also implement improvements to the area surrounding the Shirlington Road and South Arlington Mill Drive intersection.

The bridge is expected to open in fall 2024.
