The horse unexpectedly fled a July Fourth parade route.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — A horse that was part of a Takoma Park Independence Day parade escaped during the procession, according to Takoma Park Police.

The horse had unexpectedly begun running in the opposite direction of the parade route. A video from the crowd shows people enjoying the parade when you suddenly hear, "Oh my God, there's a horse!" Moments later a horse is seen galloping down the road.

The horse's handler promptly managed the situation and captured the horse.

The horse grazed one individual during its escape but that person was not injured and did not seek medical attention, police said.

Takoma Park Police were present during the incident and maintained control during the parade.
