WASHINGTON — Joe Bryant, the father of the late NBA great Kobe Bryant, has died. He was 69.
Bryant, who was a former basketball star himself, reportedly suffered a massive stroke, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 69-year-old attended La Salle University and was a first round pick for the Golden State Warriors in the 1975 NBA draft.
"We are saddened to announce the passing of La Salle basketball great Joe Bryant. Joe played for the Explorers from 1973-75 and was a member of our coaching staff from 1993-96," La Salle's basketball team said in a statement on X. "He was a beloved member of the Explorer family and will be dearly missed."
His death comes more than four years after the tragic helicopter crash that killed Byrant's son and granddaughter Gigi. The Lakers legend was 41 at the time of his death and his daughter was only 13.
