‘Joker 2’ Footage Reveals Harvey Dent First Look as ‘Industry’ Star Harry Lawtey Takes on the Role

We have the Joker. We have Harley Quinn. Now we have Harvey Dent. We have all these characters that will be featured in Todd Phillips’ upcoming sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux,” as revealed in new footage released by Warner Bros. on Tuesday morning. The promotion features a first look at Harry Lawtey, known for his starring role as Robert Spearing on HBO and BBC Two’s acclaimed series “Industry,” taking on the role of Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, one of Batman’s key adversaries.

Harvey Dent was first introduced in DC Comics as a District Attorney for Gotham City, whose symmetrical acid-disfigurement at the hands of the the mob leads him to a life of crime and dueling personalities. In “Folie à Deux,” the 27-year-old Lawtey seems to be playing an up-and-coming version of the character, as he appears in an interview on TV news with a card titling him as an assistant D.A.

“Arthur Fleck is a monster. He knew exactly what he was doing,” Lawtey’s Dent says in the brief new promotional footage. “His depraved acts of violence led to riots by his followers, and they are still willing to commit acts of violence in his name.”

Dent has proved to be a popular rogue for film adaptations of Batman. The character was first portrayed in a feature by Tommy Lee Jones in 1995’s “Batman Forever,” starring alongside Jim Carrey as the Riddler. Aaron Eckhart then took on the role of Dent in “The Dark Knight,” which followed the District Attorney’s fall from a public idol to a coin-flipping criminal after being disfigured by the Joker. Whether Lawtey’s version of Dent will transform into Two-Face in “Folie à Deux” remains to be seen.

“Joker: Folie à Deux,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, will bow in theaters on Oct. 4. It will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday.
