Josh Hutcherson Is Starring In A New Horror Movie, And Everyone's Reactions To His Return To Acting Are So Good

Josh Hutcherson is starring in Five Nights at Freddy's, a new horror movie that also marks his first onscreen role since Future Man and Burn in 2019.

I think it's safe to say that 2023 has turned into the year where we all collectively go back to our The Hunger Games phase — and honestly I never left that phase, so I am thriving.

Between the upcoming release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the 10th anniversary of the Catching Fire film, and all The Hunger Games movies and books being beloved on TikTok, it's the year to talk about this franchise as well as the actors.

While Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, and many more have starred in countless movies and shows since The Hunger Games films, fans have been desperate to see Josh Hutcherson in another role.

His last major acting credit was between 2017 and 2020 when he starred in the underrated, but hilarious, Hulu series Future Man. And his last movie role was in 2019's Burn.

Since then, he's filmed a lot of projects that have not been released yet, and he's voiced Shinjiro Hayata in the Enlglish version of Ultraman.

And even if you've wanted to keep up with Josh outside of his film and TV roles, his social media presence is pretty much non-existent.

He basically uses his Instagram to leave adorable and sweet comments on his girlfriend Claudia Traisac's pics, which just makes me love him more.

Like he comments on almost every single one ❤️. Claudia and Josh starred together in Escobar: Paradise Lost in 2014.

Anyway, that's all to say that yesterday the first teaser trailer for the upcoming supernatural horror movie Five Nights at Freddy's dropped, and the internet went wild over seeing Josh again:

Five Nights at Freddy's is directed by Emma Tammi and written by Tammi, Scott Cawthon, and Seth Cuddeback. It's based on the video game franchise of the same name and follows Mike Schmidt (Hutcherson), a security guard who starts a nighttime job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, an abandoned pizza place with arcade games and more.

Cawthon also created the video games.

Soon, Mike discovers that some of the animatronic mascots move and attack anyone that is still there after midnight. What ensues is a wild, haunted good time, that I, for one, can't wait to watch.

Alongside Josh, the film also stars Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson, Piper Rubio, Kat Conner Sterling, Elizabeth Lail, and more.

And, aside from Five Nights at Freddy's, Josh's other upcoming movie Across the River and Into the Trees, which is based on the novel by Ernset Hemingway, was just acquired by Bleecker Street for release literally yesterday.

So, it looks like we'll be getting a lot more of Josh soon, and as someone who consistently says that Josh was my first celeb crush — dating all the way back to Little Manhattan (IYKYK) — I'm super excited for Josh's return.

Five Nights at Freddy's hits theaters and starts streaming on Peacock on Oct. 27.
