WASHINGTON — Two people are in the hospital after a crash on Baltimore-Washington Parkway early Wednesday morning. Southbound lanes near the National Security Agency were closed for several hours, but reopened around 6:30 a.m., police said.

United States Park Police spokesperson Thomas Twiname said officers responded to the southbound lanes of BW Parkway in the area of NSA for the report of a crash involving two cars around 1:10 a.m. The driver of one car, only identified as a man, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car, also a man, was taken to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening, according to Twiname.

The details of the crash, including circumstances and cause, have not yet been made public.

Southbound traffic in the area of the crash was diverted to Route 175 while crash investigators worked. All southbound lanes have reopened, but residual delays were expected Wednesday morning.
