GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 22-year-old man is facing charges after police say he killed his 18-year-old girlfriend.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, 18-year-old Dania Cruz-Mejia was found dead inside a home in Montgomery Village Wednesday afternoon.
Officers say Cruz-Mejia's family went to her home on Calypso Place after not hearing from her. When they went inside, they found the 18-year-old unconscious.
When first responders arrived, they said Cruz-Mejia had died inside the home. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators later arrested Cruz-Mejia’s boyfriend in connection to her death. Sanchez Centeno, 22, was charged with first-degree murder a day after Cruz-Mejia’s body was found. He remains held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
