MOUNT RAINIER, Md. — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one dead and two others wounded in Mount Rainier.

On Sept. 23 around 7:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 22-year-old Freiyer Yanez-Salas of Washington, D.C. dead inside a burgundy Jeep Commander, having been shot.

Two other victims, a man and woman, were also found inside the vehicle, both suffering from critical wounds. They were transported to a local hospital and are expected to recover.

Investigators say all three victims were seated in the Jeep when the shooting occurred. The suspect is believed to have approached the vehicle to buy marijuana. When the victims informed him they had none, investigators say he opened fire.

After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives identified Louis Gregory, 39, of Brentwood, as the suspect. Investigators say the victims later confirmed his identity by recognizing his photo. A search of the bedroom where Gregory was staying uncovered ammunition that matched the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting.

Gregory has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, along with related charges. He is currently being held without bond in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

The Homicide Unit of the Prince George’s County Police Department is leading the investigation into this incident. Authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to contact a Homicide Unit detective at 301-516-2512.

The investigation into this deadly shooting is active and ongoing.
