The man reportedly attempted to meet the minor at a mall in Woodbridge but was met by police instead.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A 22-year-old man is facing charges for allegedly sending inappropriate pictures to a child online and trying to meet at a mall in Woodbridge for sex.
Shafan Naeem from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is charged with five counts of using a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving minors.
Police say on July 13, officers went to the Potomac Mills Mall to investigate the solicitation of a minor. Once there, it was revealed that a man used Instagram to message a minor, sending them inappropriate pictures and asking them to engage in sexual acts. During this online communication, the man allegedly tried to get the minor to meet at the mall in Woodbridge.
After police got this information about the arranged meeting, officers went to the mall and waited for the man to arrive. Once Naeem showed up, he was arrested and charged.
Investigators have also not said if they are searching for any more victims in connection to Naeem.
A court date is pending for Naeem. The investigation into these crimes is active and ongoing.
