WASHINGTON — A man is in the hospital with serious injuries after driving onto the steps of a rec center in Northeast D.C.
D.C. Fire rescued the man from the car in the 3200 block of Fort Lincoln Drive NE, which had flipped on its side and was stuck against the bars on the side of the steps. It’s unclear how the car ended up there. He was transported to a nearby hospital.
Emergency rescue crews were able to use power tools to cut through the bars, as shown in a video shared by D.C. Fire.
Authorities requested hazmat units to come clean up the scene of the crash because fuel spilled from the car.
The 3200 block of Fort Lincoln Drive NE is near the permanently closed Fort Lincoln Recreation Center in Fort Lincoln Park. Officials haven’t confirmed that the crash was at that rec center.
Investigators have not provided any details on what caused this crash.
