Man wanted for stealing victim's moped at gunpoint in NE DC

He was last seen driving away on the stolen moped.

WASHINGTON — Police are asking for the public's help identifying and arresting a man wanted for stealing a moped in Northeast D.C. on Sunday.

Around 2:30 a.m., investigators say the victim was sitting on his moped on Benning Road. This is when the suspect walked up to the victim, took out a gun, and demanded the victim's moped. The victim complied and handed over the vehicle. The suspect then drove away on the stolen moped.

Police have provided a photo of the suspect in hopes of catching him. That photo can be seen below.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or who has knowledge of this carjacking should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.  The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
