Maryland winery fire rages for hours; weather impacts response

Officials say it will take a while to determine the cause or estimate the damage because of the weather.

MT AIRY, Md. — A fire has been raging at a Maryland winery since before 4 a.m. Thursday. 

Frederick County Fire responded to a call at 3:37 a.m. to Linganore Winecellars on the 13600 block of Glissans Mill Road in Mt. Airy, Maryland. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire from a one-story building and requested the tanker task force to bring water to fight the fire. As of 6:17, the fire is not out.

Officials said no one was in the building and no one has been hurt. They also said that it will take the crews at the fire a while to determine the cause or estimate the damage because of the weather.

Linganore Winecellars a vineyard and winery on 230 acres of land in Mt. Airy, according to its website. It hosts events often, with its annual Autumn Reggae Wine & Music Festival set to be held Oct. 12 and 13. The vineyard has not posted any statements about the fire or its impact on the upcoming festival.
