During an appearance on LADbible's "Agree To Disagree" segment with his Oppenheimer costar, Emily Blunt, the pair talked about the dos and don'ts of sharing an on-screen kiss.
Before Oppenheimer, these two Golden Globe winners go way back, if you remember, to 2011's The Adjustment Bureau — so they had no problem getting real with each other.
For LADbible, Emily explained the rules for kissing other actors. Matt then used the opportunity to share an on-screen kiss with another leading lady that he hilariously described as "hell."
Emily broke down three simple rules: “When you do like intimate scenes, there’s an etiquette," she said.
"You gotta brush your teeth..."
"Use some mouth wash..."
"Stick some gum on the roof of your mouth, and then we can kiss."
While Matt agreed, admitting he could forgive a little halitosis, he did have an unfortunate experience with another costar, Scarlett Johansson, which he jokingly described as "hell."
“What happened was, we did a shot before lunch, and it was this nice little two-shot that ended in the kiss," Matt began.
"And it was really good. And we went to lunch, and she and I both thought it was over. She ate like an onion sandwich for lunch.”
Unfortunately, director Cameron Crowe wanted to do more tight shots of the scene, meaning they had to kiss again. "She goes, 'Oh shit.' She goes, 'I literally just had, I had like an onion sandwich,'" Matt said.
“I was making fun of her the entire time about her onion breath, which I didn’t even smell."
And he finished the story by admitting that it wasn't really that bad because actually "her breath smells like roses!"
Jeez. Imagine being the on-screen kissing partner of Matt, Emily, or Scarlett.
