Here's what we know so far.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Montgomery College has abruptly suspended all operations Friday following a disturbing threat from a former student.
As of 1:30 p.m., both onsite and remote classes, services, and instructions have been halted until further notice, with safety concerns taking top priority, according to an official statement from the college.
The threats, which were sent via email, prompted the school to contact local law enforcement, and the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is actively investigating the situation. Authorities are working closely with college officials to assess the validity of the threat and ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff across all campuses.
Marcus Rosano, director of media relations and public relations for Montgomery College, emphasized the college’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of the entire MC community. "The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader MC community is, and will always be, our first priority. After careful consideration and in consultation with authorities, the decision was made to close all College locations and suspend services while the investigation continues," Rosano said in a statement.
As of now, there is no specific timeline for reopening, but updates will be provided through official channels, including MC email and social media.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the former student involved or the nature of the threats. The public is encouraged to remain alert and follow further announcements from both Montgomery College and law enforcement as the situation unfolds.
For now, all college activities remain suspended, and students and staff are urged to stay informed through their MC emails and official social media updates.
