MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Police are investigating reports of a man committing disturbing acts inside a Montgomery County grocery store.

Calvert Hayes told WUSA9 that on Tuesday night a man was watching pornography on his laptop and touching himself as children and families walked by inside the Harris Teeter on Battery Lane in Bethesda.

Hayes shared photos and video of the accused man with WUSA9. We have chosen to blur his face because police are still working to corroborate the disturbing allegations against him.

“This guy was doing a lewd act, and children are walking by and they’re looking at him like what are you doing,” Hayes said.

That same night, Hayes posted about the incident on Nextdoor, warning parents to be careful. Not long after the post, a current employee said she recognized the man. She told WUSA9 it’s not the first time it has happened.

Montgomery County Police told WUSA9 that a call was made to the district station on Wednesday night about an indecent exposure incident at the store.

In a statement to WUSA9, Harris Teeter said:

“We take such matters very seriously and are working through the appropriate investigations. The safety of our valued associates and customers is our number one priority."

Hayes is encouraging parents and families to be more vigilant.

“Parents need to take a look around and be aware. This happens and not just here, other places I’m sure,” Hayes said.

Montgomery County Police said the man is on their radar and they will be investigating the claims.
