MPD searches for burglar who shattered supermarket window

Surveillance video showed a man wearing all black, with a gray backpack break into the International Progreso Market on the 3100 block of Mount Pleasant Street.

WASHINGTON — After breaking into and stealing from a supermarket in Mount Pleasant, the man behind the burglary was still on the loose on Monday, according to DC Police. 

MPD released pictures captured from El Progreso Market surveillance cameras burglary as well as descriptions of the suspect from witnesses. The man broke into the Northwest D.C. international market early Sunday morning at around 3, while the store was closed. 

"Wearing all black clothing, with a gray backpack," suspects told DC police Sunday. According to an incident report, there were, "multiple attempts to break the glass of the establishment before being successful."

The suspect was charged with second-degree burglary and destruction of property, according to an MPD release.

El Progreso Market on Mount Pleasant Street carries groceries and specializes in food from Latin America, including Salvadoran, Mexican and Guatemalan food.
