PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — An officer is on administrative leave after shooting while responding to a call in Prince George’s County.

Police responded to a call for a disorderly person in an apartment at 8:20 p.m. Sunday night on the 6000 block of Surrey Square Lane. The caller told police that they felt unsafe and that the person might have a gun.

On the scene, police evacuated all other people from the apartment. When they engaged with the suspect, one of at least three officers inside shot his gun, but it did not hit anyone.

Police were able to take the suspect into custody. They found a gun near but not on the suspect.

It is unclear why the officer shot. The police department did not identify the officer but did say he was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation and review of body-worn camera footage.
