The shooting began as a fight between two groups in the parking lot of the mall, police say.
MANASSAS, Va. — The Prince William County Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place outside of Manassas Mall Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called to Sudley Road just after 2 p.m. for reports of a shooting. A preliminary investigation shows that the shooting began as a fight between two groups of people in the parking lot of the mall. At some point during the fight, someone reportedly pulled out a gun and began shooting.
Everyone involved in the fight and innocent bystanders in the area began to run and take cover inside of the mall. Two people were wounded in the shooting. One person was taken to a hospital, the severity of their injuries are unknown at this time. The second person's gunshot wounds were reportedly caused by a ricochet bullet, the severity of their injuries are also unknown at this time.
There is no word on how many people were involved in the fight or what caused it begin. Police did stop a car near the scene of the shooting and have detained an unknown number of people. However, they have not said if those people were actually involved in the shooting or the fight that led up to it.
