Police say two KIPP students were shot on their way to school.
WASHINGTON — Two teenage students were shot on their way to KIPP DC Legacy College Preparatory Thursday morning. Police say a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were shot in the 3900 block of 8th Street Southeast just before 10 a.m.
Both students were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Both boys were conscious and breathing when they were taken to the hospital. They are expected to be ok.
Detectives believe the two boys ran to the KIPP DC campus for help after being shot. The shooting did not happen on the school's campus.
Police are asking neighbors to be on the lookout for a black truck with unknown California tags.

Officers have closed roads around the scene for the investigation. Drivers should avoid the area and use alternate routes. The school is on a secure status while the investigation is underway.
